One Too Many Mornings
(Bob Dylan)
Jim Yester, in the liner notes to the Japanese "From The Original Master
Tapes" CD (Warner/Pioneer WPCP-3536):
This song got us our first major record deal. Thanks to the three "B"s,
Barry, Billy, and Bud (Valiant Records) who saw something in us when we
sang this for them at an afternoon audition at the Troubador in West
L. A. The arrangement of the song was our first involvement with Clark
Burroughs (of Hi-Los fame) who later did most of the vocal arranging for
the "Insight Out" album.

Verse 1: Down the street the dogs are barkin'
G A
And the day it's gettin' dark
C#m F#m
As the night comes in a fallin'
D E7sus4/B E
The dogs will lose their bark
A
And the silent night will shatter
G A
From the sounds inside my mind
C#m F#m
And I'm one too many mornings
Bm E7sus4/B E A
And a thousand miles behind
Verse 2: And from the crossroads of my doorstep
My eyes they start to fade
As I turn my head back to the room
Where my love and I have laid
And I gaze back to the street
The sidewalk and the sign
And I'm one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind
Verse 3: And it's a restless hungry feeling
It don't mean no one no good
When everything that I am saying
You can say it just as good
Yes, I know you're right from your side
A Ab G
I'm right from mine
We're both just too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind
C#m F#m
